On immigration...

Post by Morphine Child »

So I've been torn about this issue for a long time, and never really developed a set idea in my head about what should be done. About a week ago, something clicked. I'd like to present that argument...tear it apart if you will or expand on it. I won't be offended, because I'm not really sure!

First: So let's say we grant amnesty to the current 9 million (or 12? I can't remember) illegal immigrants in the country. That makes them U.S.A citizens, and that forces them to pay taxes. The government, local, state and federal, all receive increased revenue due to the higher number of taxed citizens. By taxing them and giving them insurance we no longer have to worry about high numbers of illegals going to emergency rooms and no one ever seeing a dime from that visit. Yes?

Second: By them receiving standard wages, they would pump more money into the market and increase the demand for products, which would in turn increase a need for output and production which would in turn increase the amount of labor which would in time cover for the millions accepted into the country and also for the millions that already live here and are struggling to find work. (One sentence? Probably piss poor grammar.)

Third: Amnesty does not = freedom for free. It's looking like if amnesty is granted, the immigrants will receive a hefty fine and live under certain restrictions for a few years. These fines could in some way make up for lost tax revenue over the years or fund the learning of the English language (which appears to be another clause if a bill is passed).

Forth: Who the hell cares about a few million more people? This country is huge and I believe with the way simple economics work there should be plenty of room for industrial expansion and plenty of room for more people. We're sure as hell don't have to be crowded if we don't want to be.
Look at Montana!

#1. That's if these people will work for employers which will want to pay minimum wages, carry the required insurance, and if the public will deal with the costs and issues with normal employees.

#2. See above. We are talking about nine million people possibly making the minimum wage. Most likely it would be three million employees, contributing nothing to the US tax base due to Earned Income Tax Credit.

#3. Can't pay the fine if you don't have the money.

#4. What does that mean for the people who want to emigrate to America? Yeah, we can afford them easily, but this would open the floodgates.

There are 10 types of people in the world.

Those who understand binary. . .

. . .and those who don't.

I'm still waiting for someone to explain how someone can be an illegal immigrant on their own planet.

You're right, we should just let everybody in the world travel anywhere they want without an ounce of control.
