Okay, so, I was way wrong about the American shanghai of the series. Its quite excellent and Steve Carell does a great job of making you squirm while watching him almost as well as his Brit counterpart Gervais.
Here's some fantastic news about the show:

I'm one of the few opposed to introducing anyone from the British cast, even as a guest. I love Ricky Gervais but I don't want to see him in the US version.
I don't know how well it would work. The US Office is a scripted show while the british one wasn't.
Gervais' current show 'Extras' is pretty kick-ass though.

The US version is surprisingly excellent, I think. Easily the best 30-minute show on television these days.
PS Sharkman -- you are wrong -- Gervais scripted the UK version with an iron hammer. I hear that he even scripted how long the uncomfortable pauses should last, how many "umms" someone should say, how often they would blink, etc. Go ask your brother if you don't believe me.

i think the first season episode 'hot girl' may be the best one (understand - ive not seen anything from season two - i only watch tv on dvd)
the scene where michael is cleaning out his car with ryan is hilarious
m: just throw out all the empties
r: you dont want to recycle them?
m: um ... yes throw them away in the recycling bin
r: do you want this?
m: no
r: what about this bottle of power drink?
m: what flavor?
r: blue
m: blues not a flavor
r: it says flavor: blue blast
m: oh blue blast? yes put that in the trunk and there should be an
unopened arctic chill back there - i want that in the passengers cup holder
- thank you

Oops!
Well then what about his collaborator Stephen Merchant?

quality comedy programming on basic cable, at last!
I recently saw an episode where the office and the warehouse played a pickup game of basketball to decide who would come in to work on a Saturday. hilarious.
[Michael attempts to assemble a basketball team and Oscar, of Mexican descent, approaches]
Oscar: I can play, if you need any help.
Michael Scott: I will use your talents come baseball season, my friend. Or if we ever decide to box.
I love how blatanly NOT politically correct Michael is on the show. hysterical.

^ have you seen "Diversity Day" when everyone has to put a card on their head and figure out what it says via racial slurs?
Keep in mind the card on Dwight's head is 'asian' Pam's is 'Jew'
Dwight Schrute: Shalom, I'd like to apply for a loan.
Pam Beesley: That's nice, Dwight.
Dwight Schrute: OK, do me. Something stereotypical so I can get it really quick.
Pam Beesley: OK, I like your food.
Dwight Schrute: Uh, Outback Steakhouse, I'm Australian, mate!
Michael Scott: Pam, come on, "I like your food" no come on, stir the pot. Stir the melting pot, Bam! Let's do it, let's get ugly, let's get real.
Pam Beesley: OK, if I have to do this, based on stereotypes that are totally untrue, that i do not agree with, you would maybe not be a very good driver.
Dwight Schrute: [shocked] Aw man, am I a woman?

This show does, in fact, raise the roof.

He's a youngster and (as far as I know) has never had the experience of working in an office environment. That's my guess. I don't think the show would be as funny if I couldn't relate to alot of things that transpire.

Ive never been a turn of the 17th century Brit in the moors of England, but it never hindered me from appreciating the with and humor of Monty Python.
With The Office, you get it... or you don't.
He just doesn't get it.
