Yesterday evening at Come2Go

Post by Sankofa »

Considering the lack of a bonsai day I'd had leading up to the show and the mixup which resulted in my performing an extended set (35 minutes as opposed to my comfort level "get in there, kick ass and leave them shook" 20 sub-hour units of time), I came to be sitting at the venue's entrance at 5:30 (sound check time). An hour of muggy Indiana weather accompanied by the ramblings of a thickly bearded man about the seven spirits dwelling within him and how they moved along with him on his spiritual journey later, I went into the building, found the head honcho (Pastor Kurt-Come2Go is, after all, a Christian organization).

Fine-long story short (I've grown impatient).

I'd selected tracks that I could perform and not offend with instrumental interludes every 4th track (all the better to catch my breath).

About 11 people were there and I ended up having a kick ass set which turned around my until then dour day. The sound system was incredible. It's such a relief to not have to shout more as the set wears on. Ron (the soundguy), even had me doing light saberesque tricks until all feedback from the six mackie monitors was but a distant memory.

I had a blast and was well received by the few who showed up. Talk of my being booked on a non-holiday (when more people would be around) and congratulations from all.

I dedicated the set to my Mom-it was the first time she'd seen me perform indoors because all the other venues are bars and othersuch smoking establishments. Rumors about me giving her the money graciously given to me from Pastor Kurt are untrue, much as she would wish otherwise.

Zoom zip, maybe I'll see you at the next one.

PS-35 minutes went well enough that I figure I could conceivably do an hour set one of these days

{edited because my mind rimes names in games of mix up}

Well, my friend. . .speaking for the other 10 who were in attendence, you rocked!

Nice work!

Shawn

P.s. it's Pastor Kurt and soundman Ron.
