Rosemary Gates - Horses

Post by padishar123 »

Fort Wayne Guitarists:

I was looking for a Tab or the general chord structure for Rosemary Gates - Horses. I think it is a fantastic song but i'm having trouble figuring out the chords. No luck emailing the band (they're likely too busy anyways) and I was wondering if anyone else had figured the song out?

Thanks!

And here I thought I was the only one who referred to them as "Rosemary Creed".

Ummm...to actually answer your question and not make fun of some of the nicest guys you'll ever meet, it's really, really simple to play.

Allow me to clarify. I was not trying to be insulting. I happen to like the majority of Creed music that I've heard. In fact, I totally dig Tremonti as a guitarist. I just can't bypass the fact that RG sounds SOO much like them. It's just the way it is, and I wasn't passing judgment as much as I was passing a funny.

I really only know one of the guys from the band, and I don't even know him well, but he's always been friendly to me; however, at a RuleSeven show many years ago, their lead singer approached me between sets and asked me if he could come up and sing. I'd never talked to him before and I only knew him through having seen RG and it really irked me, so maybe I have been biased by that.

Either way, they write good songs, have great production in the studio, and I tend to like their stuff even if it does sound like Creed.

I always thought they sounded like a cross between Creed and Pearl Jam. Not as cool as Pearl Jam, but cooler than Creed.

Musically a cross between Creed and Pearl Jam. . .yeah. . .and Christian looks like Gavin Rossdale. If only Gwen had come to Fort Wayne.

I'm sorry, but in my opinion this is one example of why the FW "scene" will always struggle to be anything more than what it is. There is a plethora of talent around here but nobody will ever get a sniff of the big-time unless and until the petty jealousy and bickering stops and the community comes together to elevate itself.

I realize Garr was trying to be funny, but the reality is that RG brought a TON of attention to the FW scene back in 2000 and really helped pave the way for other bands to be allowed to play originals on weekends around town. Back then you could go to a RG show and see members of Abraham, SDB, Black Tooth Grin, Strut Train, Fawn Liebowitz, etc. You just don't see that kind of support anymore. If somebody wanted to get on stage and jam, that was a *good* thing, not a reason to kick someone in the nuts.

I have been to several Broom Penny and RuleSeven shows and have always had a good time and I'm not trying to say Garr is the downfall of Fort Wayne music. I'm sure I'll prolly get the smack down for this post and that's ok but I can tell you that Christian, Mike, B-funk and the guys are definitely some of the best musicians around here and cool guys to
boot.

I realize some bands wear their influences on their sleeves a bit more than others, but if you think your band is 100% unique, you may be dreaming a bit.

I dissagree a bit. There is still support in the scene. It just goes in waves. Hell we played O's on friday night with LLC and Kantis. There were several local music faces out there whether it be promoters or other bands.

Just because a certain era dies out and you don't see many people at shows anymore doesnt mean that there isnt local support it just means that people arent into the music anymore.

I saw this happen between my two bands. I was in Severence back in 2005 along with P-Mel. Severence would play to 10 people on a friday then P-Mel would play Sat to 20-30 people, and pmel had been playing out for a month or so, Severence close to a year. Bur Severence was a product of Early 90's grunge and Late 90's prog rock. We were talented and wrote good songs, but I never anticipated a huge turnout at our shows because I knew the music was past its prime. I just enjoyed writing music like the music I grew up with guys I enjoyed writing music with. So I never got mad if there wasnt a sh*t load of scene people out there. PMel early off had more potential so I focused my attention to that one more as far as promoting and trying to get attention from local music folk.

RG are great guys and talented musicians, I do agree that they have done great things for this music community in the past. The same thing is happening now, with the current popular bands around town. LLC is a prime example of true support for the local talent. The are signed, recording, and touring and still more then willing to throw out a hand to help out us groups still trying to get out of here.

@supwichya: You know, I JUST had that conversation with someone in a PM regarding this. I even apologized, stating that I should have checked my words, but now it's too late. I didn't mean anything bad by it, but I see how it came across that way.

When I was able, I was at RG, Abraham, Black Tooth Grin, Wailhounds, Blue Moon Boys, Octopussy, Tested on Animals, Interfold, Strapt, and countless other bands' shows too. I have been a part of that support network for a LONG time until my work and family life interjected their needs.

If I were able, I would be out 4-5 times a week supporting local shows and trying to recruit other people to get out and about, but I can't. Nothing I said, however, was out of "petty jealousy or bickering." Though none of my bands commanded a 200+ attendance regularly, we were close so there was nothing to be jealous of.

Well, I think Rosemary Gates' lead singer is a d*ck and that is why i don't care for them. I played a benefit show with them once probably 5 years ago and he was an absolute ass to everyone there including his band mates. I don't give sh*t what they have done to help the scene, his attitude that night was enough to turn me off to them forever.
