The owner seems like one of the most hospitable guys around. On the DP Sessions nights, it was waaaay too crowded to enjoy without the tent outside. I'm pretty sure it was also the first place I saw the Legendary Train Hoppers.

Hehehe...I also got fanagled into Marie's car with her & "Ollie's Army" for a fun, short minute!

Good to see Tony's got DP turned around.

Happy to see him take back running it compared to
the (2) looossars that almost succeeded in
running into the ground.

Though I'm not sure I could hang out there on a regular basis, I really enjoyed the time spent there for the Deer Park Sessions. That's some of the most fun I've EVER had at a local show. My eyes/ears were opened to lots of new music that night (Trainhoppers, NoRA (pre-NoRA), Taco Toppers, Munger, etc.) that I had never heard before. It was KICKASS.

You can walk into the Deer Park Irish Pub, but it’s best if a big, blustering gust of wind blows you inside. After a few hours of frigid tailgating in the outdoor beer garden, the inside of the bar is as warm and cozy as a cabin in the woods.

It’s a small place – just about the size of a two-car garage – and is filled with homey touches. A rickety piano sits in the corner of the room, the walls are made of knotty pine and red and white checkered linoleum (the kind you find in grandma’s kitchen) covers the floor. Behind the wooden bar, 42 imported beers – each one marked with the flag of its native country – surround a small statue of St. Patrick. Dressed in green robes, he guards a jar filled with quarters that rests next to his feet. (Any patron caught swearing at The Deer Park is forced to put a quarter in St. Patrick’s swear jar.)

The Deer Park is known as a quirky place. For instance, it’s the host of one of the shortest (if not the shortest) St. Patrick’s Day parades in the country. (Just a few hundred yards down Viola Avenue and back again. St. Patrick – out from behind the bar and carried aloft on a bier – has been known to smile at the brevity of the event, owner Tony Henry says.) And once a month, patrons gather for Dancioke, where customers (occasionally emboldened by alcohol) take the stage and dance for the audience.

During October, Henry and several of the pub’s patrons carry a giant pumpkin to the bridge on Spring Street and toss the orange behemoth into the St. Marys River, igniting a musical cheer from the spectators. As Irish poet William Butler Yeats wrote, “never was a piping so gay.â€

hands down best place to play a show. I know it's small and there's no room for the band but it's always an enthusiastic crowd and Tony makes that place awesome!!

Are you sure you're not thinking of DADV?
There are 10 types of people in the world.

Those who understand binary. . .

. . .and those who don't.

Deer Park/ Great Little Pub

Post by cosmicmusicpromo »

I have been to Deer Park a few times, what a place. Great people, great time, and the best music. Tony Henry, what a fantastic person to own a pub with the same warming personality!

Hey Tony, by the way, I will eventually drop off the 2 Central Catholic metal logo rings I have for you!
