I have seen posts up lamenting the state of radio in Indy, but never really understood until recently. After a long weekend of shows in Lousiville and then Ft. Wayne, I realized what a difference there is out there. Throughout my driving, I was able to keep the radio on 24/7 in both of these cities - what a different bunch of music! I believe it was 98.9 in Ft. Wayne that blew me away with their selection the most - I heard 20 songs in a row that I never hear in Indianapolis.

This suprises me - not so much with Louisville as with Ft. Wayne - why is it that there is such a better selection of music in this city than in Indy? I find it hard to believe that we have a less diverse population here than they do there... is this the difference between Clear Channel and others, or do they own everything in Indiana and I just got lucky?

Long story short, we will be playing more in Ft. Wayne and I almost look forward to that long-assed trip just for the great radio. Good job, other city.

So what is the industry difference? I'm interested to know more about this topic...

98.9 The BEAR does make efforts to play local bands, typically metal, hard rock and the like.

Yeah, actually I am suprised by this. I hear a lot more repeating and a lot less "new" music here than I did there.

But it wasn't just the Bear, either. There were cool, old-school R&B stations and some country stations (though I'm not a huge fan) that were playing some really obscure tunes. And the Bear did have more metal and locals on it, for sure. I also heard more obscure tunes by famous artists - I can't tell you the last time I heard Ozzy's "Mr. Tinker Train" on the radio here!
