Ever since the Janet Jackson wardrobe malfunction, the NFL has gone with old-time, 'safe' acts for its Super Bowl Halftime Show. In 2005 we got Paul McCartney, and in '06 they had the Rolling Stones. There was no way either act would get out of hand and create another 'incident'. (The Rolling Stones used to be a threat for this, but at this point we're just worried Mick's Depends might start leaking.)

This year's Super Bowl halftime will feature . . . Prince. I'm only 26 and I remember the good years, when Prince was always a threat to be naked on stage, or simulate sex with whatever was available at the time. Now he's the old, relatively safe act at the Super Bowl.

Between this and 101.7 playing songs I grew up on (Jack & Diane and Rocketman back to back last week), I now feel old and washed up.

At what point do doctors start shoving metal tubes into my nether-regions and start talking about colostemy bags?

old or not, prince is still the man! prince is the definition of the word entertainer.

Maybe this chalks me up in the "old" catagory.

I would way rather see Prince at the halftime show than some new flavor of the month teen chic or boy band.

Safe or not, he has proven himself over the years as more than flash in the pan.

Yeah I had not heard that yet. I would love to see prince at the Sup Bowl. Agreed with thte teen band of the month thing. I would rather see legends.

I *think* I read somewhere that Prince has had a change of heart regarding some of his overly sexual tunes and his over-the-top sexually charged past.

To the point that he no longer performs a few of his songs live.

A bit of "personal inventory" has softened him over the years.

Not to say that his shows are still amazing, but I doubt you will be seeing anyone dry-humping onstage.

Maybe this makes me a dirty old man, but that Brittney Spears/Aerosmith show a couple of years ago had me glued to the television... I don't recall a single note she sang though

I'm definitely excited to see Prince, and more than happy that it's not some random boy band/pop princess. I'm just saying that the whole idea of Prince being old-timey and safe makes me feel ancient. Thats an artist that was edgy and exciting IN MY LIFETIME. When it was The Stones I was ok, I don't remember their heyday. Prince was humping Appolonia in Purple Rain yesterday it seems.

I feel like I'm gonna watch the game with my younger cousins and say things that begin with "Back when I was your age . . ." regarding Prince. Hence, I feel old.

It is like when you come across a greatest hits package of one of your favorite bands and it was released on Rhino Records.
