Loop Pedals

Post by girlzrock »

Not sure where to put this so I figured I'd start here.

Anyone (especially acoustic musicians), ever used a loop pedal on stage to perform with. I have been looking into possibly getting one to use for solo performances but am curious what others think of them.

Any thoughts you have (relevant to the post of course) would be helpful!

Thanks!

K.T. Tunstall uses one to great effect. . .other than that, I know nothing.

Check this out, Jen.

The Digitech JamMan is a similar deal, but I think BOSS pedals sound better than Digitechs.

Want five bills worth of complete insane loop control with which to blow their little minds? The BOSS RC-50 will hurt 'em bad.

I've never used one in performance, but I've used a computer based looper (the one built into Digital Performer called POLAR) as a compositional aid. It's huge fun. As for how an audience responds, well... the people who are becoming known for using them KT, etc) seem to be knocking 'em dead doing some fairly rudimentary stuff. You should hear what some of the fusion jazz or electronica "Live PA" guys do with tools like the RC-50. OMG.

I've been looking at the digitech. It seemed to get better reviews than the boss pedal. Thanks for the links. I think they both look fairly comparable to one another.

KT is the reason I wanted to start looking at them. It looks like a bunch of fun and would give me a chance to look like less of a hack on guitar when I'm on stage.

I'll try to go check out Chris. I'd love to see someone else in action. I had seen Michael Kelsey use one and he was doing some pretty crazy stuff with his. I also saw a guy on Youtube use one to play an acoustic version of Yeah by Usher. It was one of the funniest things I have watched.

I'm thinking I want to use it to do some pretty basic percussive types of things along with a few layers of guitar and maybe some vocal stuff. Nothing too involved just to add a little more umpf to the show.

Thanks guys for your input. I really appreciate it!

I do think that the Digitech has more features (memory card expansion, PC synch, blah blah), I just always think you get better audio out of a BOSS, that's all.

Good luck!

I've been using the BOSS for a couple years and have been very happy with it.
