Hmmm...Okay, taking into account that she is a new love interest here's a few songs for that, plus a few for down the road should things be working out well.
Lilac Wine-Jeff Buckley
Ain't No Sunshine-Bill Withers classic, although there are several great covers of this song out there as well.
Lovesong-The Cure, another classic that never gets old
He gets a lot of sh*t (I know I've thrown him plenty) but John Mayer has a couple of really good love songs. The one I'm thinking of is "Covered In Rain" off of his Any Given Thursday double live album.
Pretty much anything by Lionel Ritchie and no, I'm not kidding.
Winding Wheel-Ryan Adams off of Heartbreaker
The Luckiest-Ben Folds
Come Away With Me-Norah Jones, perhaps a bit overplayed, but still a great song.
You Are The One-Shiny Toy Guns, a really good song, upbeat and somewhat electronica, but not annoyingly so.
And if you would like to throw on a local (or formally local anyway) artist might I suggest "Rose Petal Wine" by me (available for free download on my myspace, link should be in my signature).

) How's that for whoring myself out?
That's off the top of my head. If I think of any more, I'll post 'em. What kind of music is she into anyway? That would probably help us in making suggestions.

my only suggestion is that it had better truly be a mix tape.
....as in on a cassette...........

No love songs mix tape is complete without Peter Gabriel's 'In Your Eyes', anyone who's seen Say Anything will agree. Makes me wanna hold up a boombox.
Aqualung - probably 'Strange and Beautiful', though 'Brighter than Sunshine' would work too.
How is her sense of humor? I always find it's best to throw in a little bit of funny, that's why my mix tapes generally include The Divinyls - 'I Touch Myself', or Wheatus's 'Teenage Dirtbag'.
How's about Gun's 'N Roses - 'Patience'?
G Fresh stole my Cure song.
I'm sure I'll think of more - this just became my distraction for all day at work - will post again later.

simply put, i love this site and it's users! in a night i get the cure, ben folds, peter gabriel, and a suggestion for "ain't no sunshine"! fwm rocks my ass!
she is into alot of the new "alternative"(for lack of a better term). i'm trying to turn her on to some different sounds. i put the ben harper live from mars cd on for her and she was like "this band is awesome......who are they?", so i kinda look at this as a project. i think she wants to her good music, and it's my job to provide. or maybe i'm just being a music elitist and a douche bag. either way i think she'll dig the tape. and yes traumaqueen, most definitly a cassette, just like the ones i used to make for girls in the 8th grade. i figured it'd mean more that way.
ps. G FRESH- for your shameless self promotion, you will be on the tape for sure.

Thanks! I still feel a little like a smelly pirate hooker for suggesting putting myself on your mix tape, but I'll get over it.

Don't forget the break-up mix-tape... just in case, but don't let her find it, or you'll be in deep trouble.
GNR - Used to Love Her
Better off without a wife by Tom Waits
Oh, and plus 1 on the G-Fresh tune...

so far the tape looks a whole lot like this.........
true love waits- radiohead
waiting on an angel- ben harper
do you realize- the flaming lips
throw your arms around me- pearl jam
into your arms- the lemonheads
untitled- d'angelo
girl- beck
reconsider me- warren zevon
lovesong- the cure
can i sleep in your arms- willie nelson
the luckiest- ben folds
in your eyes- peter gabriel
just what i needed- the cars
she- elvis costello
it looks like this might be a series of "MAKING WHOOPEE!" mixtapes, so keep the ideas coming! also, local music is more then welcome. i'm not in the area right now, so downloadable locals preferred!

Well, if we're talking making whoopee, you gotta throw on some Marvin Gaye then. "Let's get it on..."
