What do you guys think...

We (drop list) have been having trouble finding a singer. We have guys say they are interested and either dont show, are not that good or take forever to commit to a day. Dont get me wrong we have had some sucess, but we have had more practices where people cancel, or just dont show. So I have an idea, and I was wondering what everyone thought about it. I was thinking about open auditions. Telling everyone who is interested about the days, not just one. That way we will be less likely to have a practice with no potential singer. Is this a good idea? Would it be akward if two or more people did show? I just hate to keep dedicating a whole session to one potential singer, considering the past results. If anyone can respond with their experence in this area we would appreciate it!!

Thanks!

Having worked extensively in theatre while in school, this is how ALL auditions were done. If you don't have the talent or skill to hack it in front of your peers, you should go home and practice more.

Do I think it will work in this area? Not really. I don't think that there are enough good singers in the area who are not already in bands. Good singers and good drummers are probably the HARDEST musicians to find in this area. The good ones are already taken up and get snatched again as soon as they're available. I had another offer within a week of RuleSeven's disbanding and I wasn't even looking.

In addition to that, do you have materials provided for the person auditioning before they come out? Is there something for them to listen to? Is there a frame of reference for your style? Is the audition time and location set with the person in mind? New people may not be keen to the idea of a 45 minute drive for an audition. There could be a large number of factors involved with why someone would not show up or not nail down scheduling a date. You should look at more things than just the respective applicants themselves.

We thought about doing that as well. I think you should give it a shot. The worst that can happen is that nobody shows up for that day.

dr drew....we are doing heavy rock based music. Thanks everyone for the input. We have some studio time booked for a 2 song demo type recording. If we havent found a singer yet, we will just throw down the music. I am sure then we will be able to post it on myspace, make cds, or whatever. On that note...we are getting together this Saturday, if anyone is interested in stopping out let me know and I will give you the address. Singer or not if anyone is interested in just stopping out to see what we are all about or just hang, you are more than welcome too.

Thanks
