4 Ways to Comfort Baby When He’s Sick
I consider myself (and Macks) very lucky that throughout his 11 months, he’s really only been sick once. This weekend he came down with something and when I took him to urgent care, they let me know that he has a double ear infection. My bubbly and active little boy was lethargic, baby clothes, had a fever, and just wanted to be held and comforted. As a mom, there is nothing I hate more than knowing my child is sick and also knowing there’s nothing I can do to make him better. While I knew I had no magial power to make his ear infection go away, baby nappies, there were several things that I was going to try to do to help make him as comfortable as possible. Here they are:Advertisement1. Give him an item of comfort. Macks has the Mickey Mouse Activity Toy that he got when he was a few months old. Mickey goes with us everywhere because it can easily attach to the stroller or car seat. He loves chewing on his ears and his tail and loves to shake the ball the make noise. This toy has quickly become his favorite thing and is a sense of comfort for him. Yesterday on our way to the doctor Macks was fussy because he just wanted to be held, but I gave him his Mickey Mouse toy and suddenly those tears went away and he just hugged on him on our way.2. Get a cool washcloth. Macks has been running a fever and has been hot to the touch. To help cool him off, I grabbed a washcloth, like these cute Winnie the Pooh ones, and put it in cool water to put on the back of his neck. It helped cool him down and ease some of the fever.3. Make him comfortable. While Macks wasn’t able to tell me how he felt, I know that he was uncomfortable because all he wanted to do was be held. When I am sick, all I want to do is lay in bed in my pajamas. So to get him as comfortable as possible, I put him in a nice comfy pair of pajamas, like these Mickey Mouse Cuddly Sleep and Plays, that are both comfortable and easy to take on and off.4. Hold him. You can never spoil your little ones too much when they are sick. All Macks wanted was his mama, and knowing that was all that he wanted and that was what made him the most comfortable, I made it happen. We laid in bed and I held him close all day long. Although he was feeling bad, it was a magical moment to be able to hold him for that long. I don’t get many of these moments anymore because he is always on the go,baby feeding, so I was sure to take advantage of it.
