Jam Crib is making plans to hold all ages shows each week in the Sound Stage Studio. It is able to accomodate audiences of 60 people. The acoustics are great and can handle rock your face off volume.

We are seeking groups and their fans who would appreciate performing in such a venue with respectful use and treatment of the premises.

If your band is interested contact Tim at Jam Crib for further details.

You might want to read a little thread Olliver's Army started titled "Open Letter to Young Bands". Let me see if I can find it and I'll post the url here...

On Edit: I found it! Here it is:

Haven't had any Hip-Hop acts in to try it yet other than Dj Carnie messing around at 3 Simple Words rehearsals. Is there a reason acoustics for Hip-Hop would be any different from that of live musicians?

Its a go. I'm getting three groups lined up for the first show next week on Saturday 4/22. If there's anyone would want to play 4/29 or thereafter stop into Jam Crib and see me.

I believe our guitarist Burcee contacted you regarding getting set up on these.
I hope it works out. This sounds like a great idea that I would love to be a part of.

Basically the sound necessary to make for a good hip-hop show are different than most rock oriented shows...Ive found this out the hard way too many times...

For my own FYI...

How is it different, and what was done to make it better?

Well, Im not really a sound guy, so I cant really answer that in a techincal since...but Ive noticed as shows that Sub-Surface has played w/ rock bands and/or punk bands and stuff...all it seems like they need is an amp and a basic PA system...monitors seem optional...and things like that...w/ hip-hop its the sound has to be mixed differently because the focus is on what the MC is saying and the DJ is cutting...it has to be mixed so that both the beat bumps...and the other factions can be heard simultaneously...again...apologies if that doesnt really help...Im not really sure how get it across technically...but I can tell you when I hear a good mix versus a bad one for sure.

Apparently your talking more about sound system mixing rather than room acoustics. Jam Crib's studio's were engineered by one of the leading acousticians in the midwest and are sonically impeccable. Granted, a mix can be crappy, but that is a matter of how things are dialed in on the board. I would think that adjusting levels with a sound check would remedy your concerns. The pa system in our Sound Stage has a Mackie 1604-VLZ Pro Mixer, Mackie SRM450 PA Speakers and
Galaxy Hot Spot PA5X140 PA Monitors.
