I f'ing suck at burning CD's...

Post by The_Dude »

Every time I burn a damn CD, the 'finished' CD skips the whole way through. For the life of me, I can not get this process down. What the hell am I doing wrong? I've ruined 4 blanks tonight.

It's possible you got a bundle of crap cd's. That's happened to me before (though they usually crap out before the burn is complete).

Also, what are you trying to play them in? Some older stereos I've found don't play cdr's very well.

It's not the CD's. It's been this way for years. It's the main reason I never try to burn/copy a CD...because this always happens. I'll burn/copy it and I'll play the CD in iTunes or Windows Media Player and it f'ing skips and sounds like crap.

I ripped it last night with WMP and burned it...and it happened.

I tried with iTunes...and it happened.

I suck at it.

What software are you using to burn?

I will dig up some good stuff for ya..:)

Also what are you doing WHILE you are burning? Might be a priority thing with the rest of the system...causing skips in the process during burn.

I used iTunes once and Windows Media Player 3 times.

The first 3 times, I was surfing the web. The last time, I sat and watched it burn. Same result.

This happened on my old PC, too.

Does RAM have anything to do with it? I was recently told that I need at least a Gig of RAM in order to get the full capabilities of FiOS and when I checked, it was just under a half Gig.

Nah...RAM has nothing to do with FiOS...ignore that logic...:)

Might be that you are using WMP...but of course that SHOULDN'T have anything to do with it.

Have you replaced the drive ever? Is this possibly the same drive as you had in the old computer?

What is the SPEED of the computer? Right click 'My Computer' select properties and tell me what it says in the general tab under CPU...I am sure that should have much to do with it either since CD burning has been around WELLLLLL before your computer and other didn't have the same problem.

Here are a few links to FREE burning somftware:

http://www.download.com/Express-Burn/30 ... ?tag=lst-4

http://www.download.com/Instant-CD-DVD- ... ?tag=lst-5

Might try a different software and if it does the same thing let's look at the burner itself.

I might have a few CD burners laying around if we need to swap something out for ya. You can always upgrade to a DVD burner for about $45-$50 as well...

We will figure it out...

I'll have to wait until I get home to look into this. I'm 0 for 2 with computers when it comes to burning crap. Something tells me maybe I'm just doing it wrong. I'll see if Anderson's homoerotic self can burn one on it this weekend.

That is most likely the software there. A few things about doing DVD 'back-ups':

You must use good software
You must use a good BRANDED DVD
You must use DVD+R (movies)

I 'back-up' about 20+ DVDs each week and generally flawlessly. The problems I might run into are the copyrights, but that is quickly resolved with software updates.

I have over 500 movies 'backed-up' and can't recall any that I have not been able to do...some are just 'tough'.

Image Burn is the replacement for DVD Decryptor.

I use that with DVD Shrink. They are both FREE and I have them if you want them. For EVERYTHING you might ever want to know about DVD burning hit the site afterdawn.com.

Image Burn is available there, but I can get you a copy of shrink if you need it. I am not sure how easy that one is to find anymore.

If you want absolute results and don't mind spending a little $$ go to slysoft.com and grab DVDCLONE and ANYDVD. I use/own/sell that and they are unstoppable...:)

The Dude: sometimes running other software while burning a CD can cause a bad burn too. It's best to make sure that all programs are closed prior to the burn. It also helps to make sure that you've used an optical drive cleaning disc prior to burning. That helps make sure that the lens is clean and the laser is working in a better environment.
There are 10 types of people in the world.

Those who understand binary. . .

. . .and those who don't.

I suggest that your hardware is flatly rejecting your taste in music and is staging a revolt against you.
