big, roomy, comfortable car suggestions

Post by bassjones »

Okay, so it's time for car shopping. I want a big, roomy, comfortable car that's still decent on gas mileage. Thinking about:

Buick - Lucerne or Lacrosse
Caddy - CTS
Dodge - Charger or Magnum
Lincoln - LS
Chevy - Impala SS or next model down.

Something else I haven't thought of? Anyway, you get the idea of what I'm thinking about.

Since you are a Honda fan....

Best purchase I have ever made. Roomy, carries EVERYTHING, and gets 20mpg. IT's about $50 to fill it up, but damn it's worth it. It seats eight, and seats fold down easily.

seats aren't too comfortable for 6'5" 350lb man. I test drove one. Other than that I liked it, but I want roomier. 4-runner might be an option.

Really? I'm about five inches shorter than you and get my tubby ass in there with no problems. Oh well, at least you considered it.

I'm 6'5" with pretty short legs - 32" inseam. Very long waisted (and long shafted, but that's another story), so I hit my head on the ceiling of a lot of otherwise roomy cars.

Have you considered any imports? I'm 6'3" and her VW Passat has an enormous amount of legroom. Granted, I'm more of a truck guy and for comfort...you can't beat a good truck, IMO.

A friend of mine is 6'7" and drives a Hyundai Santa Fe...he really digs it.

I'm 6'7" and I drive an Explorer...it's very comfortable, but the MPG is horrible. So I wouldn't recommend that. Personally, I'm looking at either a Hyundai Santa Fe or Tuscon, or a Ford Escape.

Same thing here Bassey.... 30" inseam which is still too damn long. I have the seat all the way back and it's comfy as hell...

My Explorer died, and I remembered this thread today. Mostly because I bought an SUV.

I test drove quite a few vehicles, and again, being 6'7" I figured I could shed some light on space. Of course I'm ridiculously long legged, unlike you, but maybe this will help either way.

Ford Escapes are roomy and good on gas. I was very comfortable in this one.
The Jeep Liberty was also very comfortable
The Hyundai Santa fe had my legs hugging the dash.

The Chevrolet Equinox ended up being really low miles, reasonably priced, and with plenty of leg room. So there would be my recommendation. Either that or the Ford Escape which was similar in comfort to my Explorer.
