That is going to hurt the all ages shows. I know as a parent I don't think I would let my kid go there after a shooting took place.

In Sunsets defense...
I have been involved with Sunset Hall for about 5 years now and have say that I wouldn't concern yourself too much. The shooting was not in the Hall. Sunset has a variety of crowds. It all depends on the night. Metal Mondays and nights that rock esq shows go on are a completely different crowd then the other nights. I have been there on off nights and I will admit that there can be a rough crowd there. I have seen many altercations break out on those nights which those people involved are promplty removed.
When an all ages show happens it is in the Hall, not the bar and the crowd in both areas is made up of mostly the people there for the show. I will admit that I have seen some fights happen having to do with people that don't understand the proper pit etiquette. That will happen anywhere. This is not however a crowd that brings guns.
My advice (this goes for any like situation) is to go with you kids to these types of events. Check the place out. Sunset is not a bad place but it is attached to a bar and these things can happen.

Al is right. I am sure this is an isolated incident...I just brought it to light because I was curious and it would hopefully dispel any rumors of the place being a 'danger' to people that attend...
I would love to get more actual details...unfortunately WANE.com doesn't seem to consider it worthy of a follow up since the story is in the same state it was when I first read it.

ive played at sunset many times, safest all ages venue in fort wayne i think.
the off duty police provide swell security!
not to mention armand (the owner or manager) could kick some ass if he needed to.
much safer than the fire house theater, jam crib etc.
it was an isolated event.
it could have happened anywhere.

I do have to say I have noticed over the past few years that people usually don't get randomly shot in fort wayne, it's usually drug related or relationship related and the person shot usually knows the person who shot em. I'd have to agree it was an isolated event and I don't think it's fair to sunset or the bands who play there to say you're not going anymore because someone decided to be a dumbass that wasn't involved with the club or the scene. if anything sunset should be safer now than it was before as I'm sure management is doing everything they can to make sure this never happens again.

I would have to say I like Sunset Hall the stage set up is great and the space is awesome. I have only been out to one show and I was pleased however, I couldn't stand going into the bar that is attached. Me and a buddy walked in to get a beer and had about 3 Mexicans that came up to us and told us that we didn't belong there and acted like they wanted to kick our asses just because. No i'm not racist so don't get on that train but that sh*t that night there pissed me off. In the long run we went back and forth from the bar to the venue and nothing ended up happening. But I would have to say the feeling that night wasn't a safe one but nothing went down and even if it had I wouldn't of held Sunset Halls Music Venue aspect of it to blame and I still would go back if they held a show that was worth going to. Just thought i'd throw out my 2 cents.

Well the Bar attached to Sunset has been a primarily Mexican bar. You will have that with any place that has a regular crowd.
It has only been this year that rock esq shows have been happening on mondays and weekends. For many years it has been the same mexican crowd on a daily basis.

I've never felt uncomfortable playing or attending shows at Sunset. I have heard the bar crowd can get a little rough, but it's never concerned me since shows are generally over before prime drinking time and I don't go into the bar side anyways.
