Planning is now underway for the music portion of Sol Fest 2010. This is a long post - sorry!
For those of you who do not know about Sol Fest, it is a fundraising event held annually at Fox Island Park, in a rustic and open air theatre. The proceeds go to provide funds for day camps, supplies, materials, and programs for kids who could not otherwise afford to come and enjoy the summer activities of the County Parks. We also take some of our programs to local schools, and this fundraiser helps to provide for those. There are Food Vendors (priced for families to afford), Mad Anthony Brewery and a family-friendly beer garden, kids activities, craft vendors, naturalist exhibitions, and music live from noon to 8 pm each day, in a family-friendly, family-oriented atmosphere. Everyone from the two-month old, to the 93 year-old love this event. Even Fido is welcome if he behaves himself in crowds. Each year we have several sponsors who help to defray overhead expenses, again this year Rock104 will be there, so Doc West and Leslie Stone will be on hand to emcee and enjoy the activities again this year.
Because it is a fundraiser, the funds we have available for bands/acoustic acts are limited. The fees are a flat $50. for the 30 min acoustic set, and a flat $150 for the 1-hour band set.
The music is set up to be as continuous as possible with acoustic acts performing in front of the main stage, while the bands tear down and set up behind.
A professional sound system, guitar amps, lines, mic's, static drum, piano/keyboard amp, bass amp, and much more is all provided. We ask that you utilize the static drum kit which is provided to eliminate setup/tear down. Because of the increased number of children, dogs, bikes, and vendors in the park during the festival, we cannot allow close access to the stage, as we did in the past, therefore we have made it as truly plug&play as you will ever see. (special arrangements can be made in advance for special considerations).
As we book our acts for the festival, we provide them with a detailed listing of equipment, as well as other important information that they will need for the event, including several contact numbers they can use on the day of the event for any emergency situations.
Even if you are not interested in playing, you should come and check out the event!
Please Contact me at serrano@cathyserrano.com if you'd like to participate this year. Originals and cover music are welcome. If I am not familiar with your band, I may need access to mp3's, a myspace page, or a CD, which I review along with my committee members to get more than one viewpoint.
Please consider supporting this event this year, whether you are playing, or simply coming out to support your friends, and please bring the entire family - they will have a wonderful time.

Once again Sol Fest booked within just a few days of my announcement. It is head-spinningly fast, how quickly that it fills up. That is both good and bad, I suppose. Thank you to all who have responded, and even if late, I save those emails in my "sol fest" email folder to refer to next year.
I think you will love our lineup this year, we have some repeats from previous years, and also some that have never played Sol Fest before, so I hope you all stop out and enjoy the festivities along with the entire family, and Fido.
